A snippet of the learning that took place this week.
Spring 1 Topic - When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth
To kick start our learning in 2020, we will be exploring the exciting world of dinosaurs! To start the topic, the children found some mysterious eggs on the playground and enjoyed discussing what could possibly be inside the eggs.
The children then set about making some predictions about what could possibly be inside the eggs and what we, as a class, could do to protect them. They labelled their unique predictions which included dinosaurs, chicks and even a unicorn! The children have also been busy creating nests to house the eggs, thinking extremely carefully about how to make the eggs as safe as possible.
We found a dinosaur footprint in our classroom and estimated how big the footprint was using our shoes.
Dinosaur Ice Eggs
There was great excitement in Reception as we discovered dinosaurs trapped in ice eggs. We discussed as a class where the eggs could have come from and how we could get them out. The children were able to use different tools and materials to extract the dinosaurs including salt, water and spoons. Super work, Reception! The children came up with some superb descriptions and explanations based on their observations.
Climbing Wall and Balancing Fun
Reception got to tackle the climbing wall in PE as well as practising their balancing skills. Lots of fun was had by all. I was very impressed with the determination on display!
Please find below some useful links for phonics to help support your child with their learning at home:
There are some free phonics games on the website below. We use these games in class so the children are familiar with them. The children have completed Phase 2 and are working on Phase 3.
